“Oh my gosh, it’s almost time to register already” is a common thing I have been hearing these past few weeks. For some reason I initially thought that people were just being dramatic, but no, it is pretty much already time to register for classes for next semester. I immediately went to my RamWeb account (which I apparently do not check enough) to see when I get to register.

I believe I checked my account sometime last week. I completed the Registration Ready for Spring 2013, and upon completion I discovered that registration opens to me on October 24 – which is today. How is time going this quickly that it is already time to register for next semester? I have barely gotten the hang of this semester. But at least I’ll only be taking 15 credits in the Spring; anything is better than 18.

Will I Make It Out By May?

Even though I already know which classes to register for next semester, I always believe it is a good idea to meet with an advisor just to make sure that things stay on track. Academic advising can be a very helpful resource for students, whether the student is confused about registration or wants an idea as to how they can best construct their semester. It’s free, it’s easy, and the meetings don’t last that long.

It is especially important for me to meet with an advisor because this is the last semester that I’ll be registering for. I don’t want to make a mistake with my schedule and end up having to stay another semester or two because of missed requirements.

The advisors in the HDFS department are very pleasant and quite helpful. Well, there is one that isn’t as helpful as the others, but I’m not trying to call anyone out here. I’m scheduled to meet with an advisor tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to getting things figured out and proceeding with my Senior Year.

If you ever have questions regarding what kind of major might be a good fit, what kinds of classes to potentially take, or academics in general, you might consider consulting CASA (Center for Advising and Student Achievement). The advisors are good at giving students an idea as to where they are going as they advance through school.
