Today’s Song: “Never Know” by Jack Johnson
This semester I will once again be entering a middle school as part of the STEPP program (School of Teacher Education and Principal Preparation), and with that, comes a dress code. While many regular clothes are acceptable, since I’m short and young looking, I like to put some distance between myself and the students by wearing professional clothing. And over break that meant one thing, shopping.
I’m a bit of a clothes hoarder
After leaving behind the hand-me-downs and the once a year mall shopping excursions, I’ve come to find my closet slightly overflowing. But somehow, I still need more professional clothing. So what did I do? I packed a bag of older fashions I no longer wear, jeans that are just self-deprecating to keep around, and took them to Plato’s Closet.
For those of you who don’t know, or are male, Plato’s Closet is a second hand store that you can sell back in-style clothing. They’re annoyingly picky, however.
Purging
My mother was big on purging; new stuff was fine, if you made room for it. So I made a little room for
some new professional clothing. While Plato’s did not take the entire bag of clothing (which is now sitting in my car waiting for the next thrift store), there are other options. Arc will always take new stuff, and Goodwill has a drive up donation area (for those of us who are lazy).
I figure, I’m buying new clothes no matter what, but at least I’m giving away some old ones. Until Friday, fashionista readers (seriously, did you see Kelly’s blog?).
