Today’s Song: “Submarine” by The Lumineers
I live with two other girls this year, and the problem with three is someone is always the odd one out. Well, in my case it seems. Until this semester, I was the odd one out. Sadly, anything can tip the balance. Forgetting to do the dishes, changing the thermostat, or even a coffee table.
Roommate rumble
While I have no longer become the odd one out, someone is. Stress strains roommate relations no matter what, and if you’re not careful, the metaphorical stuff will metaphorically hit the fan. This was my life last semester, so sadly, I’m more than happy to sit on the sidelines and watch the other relationship
implode.
It all starts with a coffee table, you see. Roommate one doesn’t want to put her coffee table (currently located in the spare room) into the living room. Roommate two goes to Goodwill and finds one to put into the living room. Roommate one hates the new coffee table but now won’t say anything. Roommate two wins and proudly declares her dominance.
Drama
This school year has been fraught with drama already between the three of us. Perhaps girls just can’t live together very easily. But so far, we’re managing to step away from the place with a diplomatic air. However, the rest of the semester looms ahead, and I can only hope that I’m not the odd one out.
With roommates it can either go well or terribly, terribly wrong it seems. And I for one, am looking forward to a time where it actually goes well. That’ll probably be when I just live with cats.
Until Wednesday, dear readers, enjoy the sunshine while you can.
