Today’s song: “Garden of Evil” by 1997
The crossword wasn’t what I was originally going to write about. I was originally going to write about registration seeing as I register tomorrow. But while I was planning that schedule that’ll be my life next semester I realized something. Not only have I have barely anything left to take (how did that happen?), but at the moment, I don’t really feel like thinking about the fact that this time next year I’ll be gearing up for student teaching.
So to yes, avoid that frightening realization:
I will be talking about the crossword. This may ring your memory all the way back to Danny’s old blog, but however, I can’t in anyway, give you advice about the crossword. Especially when I get too frustrated and decide to temporarily use my smart phone to generate correct answers.
In other words, sometimes I cheat. A little.
There’s a whole other language to crosswords, one that I have yet to understand. But yet nearly every day I pick up a Collegian and search for ones I know I know.
Got to learn before you can apply
Yes there’s that teacher in me who says, I’m not cheating, I’m learning. Because while no, of course I do not condone cheating, I do believe there’s a lot of trial and error when it comes to learning. What’s that old saying “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again?” Well I’m trying again and again until I learn the language. Because I’m stubborn, and don’t like feeling stupid, and having to cheat on the crossword makes me feel just that.
Might say it’s funny that I work so hard on the crossword when I have two jobs and a full course load, but it’s something that I can finish throughout the day that I don’t get graded on. So my advice for the crossword? Pick one up, challenge yourself, see how many you can get!
Until Thursday readers, have a Happy Halloween, don’t eat too much candy, and all that jazz.
